Description

Up for auction an antique earthenware blue transferware, in an aesthetic movement style, from Winkle & Wood Colonial Pottery in Stoke England.  In 1885 Frederick Winkle and William Wood went into business together at Pearl Pottery in Hanley.  In 1888 they
opened the purpose built Colonial Pottery Works in Whieldon Road on the border of Stoke and Fenton.  In September 1889 the partnership dissolved, with Winkle remaining at Colonial Pottery and Wood returning to Pearl Pottery.  The Orchid pattern was registered in 1886.
The tumbler measure 4 3/8" high, top diameter is 2 1/2", bottom diameter is 2 7/8" and weighs 7.1 ounces prior to packing for shipping.  Will ship in a 7x7x5 box.
This piece is in good antique condition with wear and discoloration consistent with age and use.  There is three (3) glaze flakes to the outer rim top edge.  There is also three (3) additional flakes on the flared edge above the foot.  The top floral transfer border has glaze bubbles, with bubbles also on the right side of the butterfly and bottom of orchid.  The foot bottom has some bubbles and a spot of glaze drips.   The interior bottom has a couple of faint scratches.
