From the
RED ALERT
press sheet:
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEAS MAY 8, 1985
BOB DYLAN'S 'EMPIRE BURLESQUE' REMIXED BY ARTHUR BAKER IN NYC FOR LATE-MAY LP RELEASE
Columbia recording artist Bob Dylan has completed
EMIRE BURLESQUE
, his 29th
album for the label, "a roaring, full-bore rock 'n roll record that should occasion a
substantial reevaluation of Dylan's place in the '80s," as noted by Kurt Loder in the
recent issue of
Rolling Stone
magazine (reprint enclosed).
NOT INCLUDED
EMPIRE BURLESQUE
is seen as a giant step for Dylan, from the explosive pro-
duction values of "When the Night Comes Falling From the Sky," to the simple statement
of "Dark Eyes," his first solo studio recording with guitar and harmonica accompaniment
since 1973's
Planet Waves.
The new album also boasts a number of firsts for Dylan--his first self-pro-
duced record, and his first work with master remixer Arthur Baker at New York's Power
Station. Baker's credits range from Bruce Springsteen, Cyndi Lauper, and Hall & Oates,
to Afrika Bambatta's "Planet Rock" and "Walking On Sunshine" by Rockers Revenge. The
LP's 4-color inner sleeve also marks the first time that printed lyrics have appeared
on any American album package by Dylan.
Tracks on EMPIRE BURLESQUE are as follows:
Side One and Side Two
"Tight Connection To My Heart" "Trust Yourself"
"Seeing the Real You At Last" "Emotionally Yours"
"I'll Remember You" "When the Night Comes Falling From the Sky"
"Clean Cut Kid" "Something's Burning, Baby"
"Never Gonna Be the Same Again" "Dark Eyes"
The musicians who worked with Bob Dylan on this studio recording include the
great Jamaican rhythm section of Sly Dunbar (drums) and Robbie Shakespeare (bass); Mick
Taylor on guitar (the former Rolling Stone who was heard on the recent
Real Live
album
documenting Dylan's summer '8h U.K. tour); Rolling Stones guitarist Ron Wood; long-time
Dylan compatriot Al Kooper on guitar; drummers Anton Fig and Jim Keltner; and three mem-
bers of Tom Petty’s Heartbreakers, guitarist Mike Campbell, bassist Howie Epstein, and
keyboardist Benmont Tench.
"Tight Connection To My Heart (Has Anybody Seen My Love?)" will be the first
single pick from the LP (b/w "We Better Talk This Over," from
Street Legal
). A promo-
tional video for the single will be filmed on location in Tokyo's high-tech club district
directed by Paul Schrader ("Cat People," "American Gigolo," Scorcese's "Taxi Driver").
The video will premiere in late-May at the time of the LP and single releases.
