Description
This alto clarinet is in really nice shape! It will need a regulation and most likely additional work. the wood is clean and doesnt show any cracks. This instrument comes from a university. the bell and receiver has some minor plating wear. This is a 60s vintage and has a lot of life left in it!

History
In the late nineteenth century, brothers Alexandre and Henri Selmer graduated from the Paris Conservatory as clarinetists. They were the great-grandchildren of French military drum major Johannes Jacobus Zelmer, grandchildren of Jean-Jacques Selmer, the Army Chief of Music, and two of 16 children in this musical family.[4] At the time, musical instruments and accessories were primarily hand made, and professional musicians found it necessary to acquire skills allowing them to make their own accessories and repair and modify their own instruments. Establishing Henri Selmer & Cie. in 1885, Henri began making clarinet reeds and mouthpieces. [4] In 1898 Selmer opened a store and repair shop in Paris and started producing clarinets.[4] In 1904, Selmer clarinets were presented at the Saint Louis (USA) World's Fair, winning a Gold Medal. Alexandre Selmer established himself in New York in 1909, opening a shop that sold Selmer clarinets and mouthpieces. The H&A Selmer (USA) Company, originally a retail partnership between the two brothers, was incorporated to expand with H. Selmer & Cie retaining a minority interest in 1923, then sold to its American partner George Bundy in 1927, ending the financial interest of H. Selmer & Cie in the company.[5]

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit our auctions! The story of my company starts right here with this eBay account, nearly 20 years ago. On September 11th, 2001 the United States was attacked, and the world changed seemingly overnight. At the time, I was a young craftsman who had just a year earlier graduated from the most reputable musical instrument repair program in the world, Minnesota State College, in Red Wing, MN. I had taken a position as an Apprentice with a premiere Custom Trombone manufacture in the Boston, MA area. While I was fortunate enough to keep my job after a series of layoffs that came after the attacks, my hours were drastically cut back to 15 hours a week. Driven by the necessity to put food on the table I engaged the passion I had for vintage musical instruments, and the skills I had learned into my own business. If you’ll notice the date when this eBay account was started, (Sept. 28, 2001) is a snapshot in time, when my life changed, and I started to realize an amazing opportunity in life that has become something truly remarkable. I have always enjoyed finding quality instruments, properly servicing and conditioning them, and making them available here to the eBay community.
